DepEd New Education Grading System

DepEd will now use level of proficiency in grading system stated below. Instead of using numerical values, grades will be letters under new K+12 education program.

A - Advanced (grade of 90% and above)
P - Proficient (85%-89%)
AP - Approaching Proficiency (80%-84%)
D - Developing (75%-79%)
B - Beginning (74% and below)

Parents will now see letters in the report cards of their child instead of numerical values. In which A is the highest as expected, but B is the lowest as abbreviated above. But teachers will still measure students' progress with numerical values, and their letter equivalents as seen above will be used in report cards. Students whose proficiency level is B will be required to take remedial classes after class hours. A student with consistent B in one subject could mean repeating only in that subject while he/she can be promoted to the next grade in all other subjects. The performance of student will still be assessed at four levels:
  1. knowledge (15 %),
  2. process or skills (25 %),
  3. understanding (30 %) and
  4. products/performances (30 percent).
Most students loves the new grading system of DepEd as it will not show the red mark in their report cards. The parents won't be able to see the exact numerical value of their child's report card but they can always ask the teachers about their child grades.
